History

The Shrine of Our Lady Help of Christians at Marian Valley, Canungra, was opened and blessed on 10 December 1995 by Bishop Eugene Cuskelly, MSC, D.D. (Auxiliary Bishop of Brisbane Archdiocese).

Marian Valley is a sacred place. It has been established as a place to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord.

It is a Shrine to which pilgrims come

  • for Holy Mass,
  • for the Sacrament of Reconciliation,
  • to be part of Eucharistic Adoration,
  • to join in Eucharistic Procession,
  • the Rosary,
  • Devotions,
  • Reflection,
  • Retreats - indeed everything that leads to Spiritual Renewal and Conversion.

Each year thousands of pilgrims visit the Shrine.

Our Lady invites all to pray and she helps us to bring Christ to our world as she did.

The Pauline Fathers

The Shrine is under the care of the monks of the Order of St. Paul the First Hermit (the Pauline Fathers).

The Monastic Order was founded in 1215 in Hungary by Blessed Eusebius under the patronage of St. Paul the Hermit who had lived the solitary life in Egypt some 870 years earlier.

The Pauline Fathers are the custodians of the miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa (the Black Madonna) in Poland since 1382. The Order was introduced to Australia in 1981 by Father Augustine Lazur. It is an Order which has laboured and prayed for almost 800 years for the salvation of souls and spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The main house of the Order in Australia is located in Penrose Park near the town of Berrima in New South Wales (www.paulinefathers.org)
